Koasalauf: Rocarek and Moravcova win the first part of the European Championships of cross-country skiing marathons

Last weekend, the International Koasalauf took place in St. Johann in Tyrol. The Czech Jiri Rocarek and Klara Moravcova won the main race.

Exciting Freestyle Race

The 50 km race in the free technique on the schedule of the Koasalauf on Sunday was really exciting. Up to the home range, 8 cross-country marathon skiers had the chance to win. Finally, Jiri Rocarek (CZE) won the sprint against Thomas Freimuth (GER) and Pavel Maruha (BLR). National squad athlete Phillip Marschall finished at the 10th rank. The Czech Klara Moravcova won the women’s race in front of Sigrid Mutscheller (GER) and Adela Boudikova (CZE). Both winners have the best chances for the second stage of the European Championships of cross-country skiing marathons at the Sumvsky Skimarathon in Kvilda on Febraury 28th. The Austrian squad athlete Thomas Ebner and Germany’s cross-country skiing star Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle won the short distance race over 28 km.


Austrian victories in the classic races

Already on Saturday the classic race was on the schedule. The long distance race over 50 km was won by Andrea Reithmayr (AUT) in front of Renate Forstner and Inger-Lise Skaar (NOR). Martin Sutter won the men’s race in front of Andy Gerstenberger and Thomas Steurer. The short distance races over 28 km were won by German athletes. Alexandra Svoboda and Alexander Wolz set the top times in the short distance races. In total, about 1.800 participants were registered in different races in the 40th edition of the Koasalauf.
