The marathon "Europe-Asia" was for the first time carried out in 1984 at the initiative of Vladimir Luzin with assistance of Uralmash plant. With development of a marathon its organization passed to regional sport committee.
It is the only marathon in Russia, start which is given in one point, at an obelisk Europe-Asia of Pervouralsk, and the finish in another - on Square "Community work Days" Yekaterinburg.
The marathon attracts with the uniqueness fans and the strongest racers of the country. In different years prize-winners of the World Cups and the Olympic Games Sergey Chepikov, Ivan Alypov, Igor Bedamshin, Andrey Kirillov, Nikolay Pankratov, Vladimir Yurin, Natalya Furletova, Irina Skladneva, Grigory Menshenin, Roman Virolaynen, Andrey Kondryshev took part in it.
Yekaterinburg, child of Petrovsky reforms, is located on border of Europe and Asia. Called in honor of the empress Catherine I, the industrial city is founded in 1723 during industrial development of the Urals and Siberia. The main center of metallurgy and mechanical engineering is known for a sad story of the House of Ipatyev and revival of new Russia, the beginning of political career of the first President Russian Boris Yeltsin's Federations.
