The Marcia Gran Paradiso takes place in Cogne in Aoastatal. The municipality is located at an altitude of 1534m, has about 1400 inhabitants and is very popular as an idyllic tourist resort under the Gran Paradiso. Coming from Aosta, at the end of the long inlet gorge, the Cogne valley opens into a vast basin. There lies Cogne, which in the summer months accommodates many mountaineers and mountain hikers.
