The mountain village of Cogne is 1500 meters below the large 4000-meter Gran Paradiso, in the Mont Blanc massif, above the Aosta Valley. There, the Marcia Gran Paradiso has been held since 1975.

The Marcia Gran Paradiso takes place in Cogne in Aoastatal. The municipality is located at an altitude of 1534m, has about 1400 inhabitants and is very popular as an idyllic tourist resort under the Gran Paradiso. Coming from Aosta, at the end of the long inlet gorge, the Cogne valley opens into a vast basin. There lies Cogne, which in the summer months accommodates many mountaineers and mountain hikers. In winter, it is perfect for cross-country skiers. Cogne ist part of the Gran Paradiso national park and a member of the tourist network Alpine Pearls, which stands up for green tourism.
The races are embedded right in the middle of the village by the stadium. Everything, such as starting number issue in the town hall, catering and stadium, are within walking distance
