Šumavsky Skimaraton moves to Vimperk in the Vodník ski resort.
After today’s inspection of Kvilda and its surroundings and in view of the weather forecast, the OC of the 40th Šumavský Skimaraton TV Nova has decided not to hold the race on the planned routes.
Unfortunately, there is more than one meter of snow on the ridges in Šumava, but in the places where the race can take place and the race facilities can be built, there is no or very little snow.
At the beginning of the week we thought that the race would take place on the 8 km long circuit between Kvilda and Horská Kvilda and maybe even further if it snows.
Unfortunately, this plan literally vanished into thin air last week when it was almost 5°C and raining even in Kvilda. All that remained of the promised snowfall in Šumava was a symbolic blanket of snow. The wet snow remains are frozen to the bone. Although they are skiable, they are not suitable for racing. In addition, the forecast for the end of next week warns of further strong warming.
We are sorry, but the 40th Šumavský skimaraton will not take place in Kvilda in 2025.
It is certainly a question of how in the future. There is snow in Šumava, skiing from Modrava to Březník, Černá hora, Stráž, Bučina, Knížecí Pláně is great and we highly recommend it to all skiers now. Unfortunately, or thank God, these places are deep in the heart of the Šumava National Park and it is not possible to build a racing facility here. Kvilda is a tourist center that can accommodate Šumava despite its tourist occupancy, but unfortunately there is no snow here this year to organize a big race.
Therefore, we have decided to move this year’s Šumavský skimaraton to Vimperk to our ski resort Vodník, where we train and race as a club.
We are a ski club and have been teaching more than 100 children to ski for more than 50 years and we love this sport. Fortunately, we have a beautiful Vodník ski resort with artificial snow in Vimperk. This year we hosted the Czech Cup for adults and young people, we regularly train here on a 2.5 km long track and even now the conditions for skiing are ideal and will certainly survive the next warm-up.
Yes, we know, these are not running tracks, long plains, endless forests and beautiful views. But it is possible to organize a nice race here, for those of you who come to Šumavák to love, to feel the adrenaline of the race, to overcome yourselves and much more.
