Featured image Allgemein
22. February 2024

This year in Seefeld and for the first time as a Green Event.
The 57th Ganghoferlauf from
02 – 03 March 2024

With over five decades of success and more than 50 impressive events, the cross-country race has long been known far beyond the Tyrolean borders. But things are different this year:

The good news first: unlike in many other regions, we will be able to organise a race. However, due to the difficult snow conditions in Leutasch, we had to decide to reschedule the race to Seefeld after a long wait for snowfall. This is the only way we can prevent a cancellation and guarantee a fun run on the snow-covered trails. Due to the rescheduling, there will be changes to the running distances and limited starting places. The Mini and Special Ganghoferlauf will still take place in Leutasch, this time with the start and finish in front of the Wettersteinhalle – where the traditional pasta party, the big raffle and all award ceremonies will take place for the first time in 4 years. This year, the Ganghoferlauf will be recognised as a Green Event Tirol Basic – more information can be found here.

More detailed information on all points can be found in the final participant notification, which will be sent to all participants by email a few days before the event.

INFORMATION ON THE RUNS AND ROUTES

The runs will continue to take place on the usual days. The classic races will start on Saturday, 2 March 2024, at 09:00. In the skating style, both races (long and short distance) will start together at the same time on Sunday, 3 March 2024 at 09:00.

The course will most likely run from the Seefeld Sports Arena to the Seewaldalm and back again. Due to the short distance (approx. 6.0 km), several laps will be completed and therefore there is a maximum limit of 500 participants per day and style (i.e. long and short distance combined). The short distance is 3 laps (approx. 17.35 km), the long distance 6 laps (approx. 36.22 km) in both styles – approx. 85 metres of climbing are completed per lap. Due to the lap race and the altitude profile, challenging races with lots of overtaking manoeuvres are expected. The detailed route maps including elevation profiles can be found here. Please note that the route may change slightly at short notice due to decisions made by the Technical Director.

INFORMATION ABOUT WETTERSTEINHALLE, RACE OFFICE AND TRANSFERS

The pasta party, big raffle, award ceremonies and finisher gifts will take place in the Wettersteinhalle Leutasch. For the first time this year, the Ganghoferlauf will be accompanied by a live broadcast on large video screens, allowing spectators to follow the action up close.

The race office, including late registration and race number distribution, will be located in the Hohe Munde hall in Leutasch as planned – and opening hours will be extended to mark the occasion. To ensure that all participants can get from the Race Office to the start and back to the award ceremony after the race without stress and traffic and parking chaos (There are no parking spaces for the Ganghoferlauf in Seefeld – the car parks in front of the Seefeld Sports Arena are closed!), we will be organising a shuttle service with plenty of buses. The buses will run directly from the Wettersteinhalle to the Seefeld Sports Arena – where the expo area including waxing service, start and finish area are located – and back again. You can find all times and the entire programme here.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE MINI AND SPECIAL GANGHOFERLAUF

The Mini and Special Ganghofer Run are also affected by the changes, but all competitions will take place not far from the usual site. The start and finish for all races will be directly in front of the Wettersteinhalle – which is very convenient for families and relatives. Because you are only a few metres away from the warm Wettersteinhalle, the catering, the live streams and the award ceremony. The race distances remain roughly the same as in the past. So nothing stands in the way of having fun with the whole family.

We look forward to seeing you.

The countdown is running – you too?
